Rwanda has been in lockdown for some weeks but has recently started to lift some of its restrictions. People are now able to leave their houses but there are no motorbike taxis which are a popular means of getting around. Schools and many employers are still closed.
The lockdown has meant that our Day Care project at Rugende has had to stop. Although that is disappointing it gives us an opportunity to focus our resources elsewhere. The families sending children to the Day Care face the same problems as people in other countries but without the benefit of a furlough scheme to provide an income while they cannot work.
We have provided additional funding to the management committee of the Day Care and with this they have been able to bulk buy food at the market and distribute this to affected families. They have also committed to providing regular food through to September.
