Before leaving Rwanda for a summer break, Gavin had been asked by the Conseil Protestant du Rwanda (CPR) to co-ordinate its finance function. Part of this role involves managing a newly created Poverty Alleviation department within the organisation.
So a return to Kigali has meant time spent planning this new work and fitting it into what we have already started here in Rwanda. This is a god-given opportunity to extend our mission through CPR. One of the first events on the calendar is a two-day consultation of CPR partners where a number of projects aimed at reducing poverty, particularly among widows and orphans, will be presented.
We have not been back two weeks and already requests are coming in for the church accounts classes to continue. This will help the churches better manage their finances, and as a consequence, make them better able to help the people in need.
